Chair

Dr. Elise B. Fox is the Solar Energy Program Manager and a Principal Engineer at the Savannah River National Laboratory, located in Aiken, SC.  She graduated from the College of Charleston (Charleston, SC) with a B.S in Chemistry in 2001.  Her graduate education was completed at The Pennsylvania State University were she received a M.S (2004) and Ph.D. (2006) in Materials with a minor in Energy and Geo-Environmental Engineering.  Dr. Fox’s research is focused on the integration of renewable energy and achieving near term cost targets in order to achieve grid parity.  She has four submitted patents, over fifty peer reviewed technical publications. She is Councilor and Immediate Past-Chair of the American Chemical Society Division of Energy & Fuels and is the Chair of the Board of Directors for the South Carolina Biomass Council.

Eddie Plowden is the Director of Marketing and Energy Services at Berkeley Electric Cooperative where he has over 30 years of experience with residential and commercial energy program, design and management.  He has worked in development and implementation of weatherization loan programs, various rebate programs, and demand response water heater programs.  He has directed the education of employees and members on energy use to include managing the solar PV Net Metering program.  Eddie is also the primary electric rate trainer for BEC and provides Economic Development and commercial members, with rate consulting and quotes.  He has also been involved with BEC media communication & Berkeley/Charleston EOC, through major storm events like Hugo and winter storm Pax 2014.

Previous board experience ranges from advisory board member to the South Carolina Energy office, including involvement with SC Energy Office programs, training and assisting with the Recovery Act energy efficiency allocation, to treasure and board member of the Greater Charleston YMCA & Berkeley County Family YMCA Facility.

Eddie is a lifetime resident of South Carolina, a graduate of Clemson University in Agricultural Economics, and is still active with IPTAY.  Eddie’s hobbies include swimming, playing tennis, boating, watching Clemson football, and saving members and SC citizens money on their energy bill!

Roxanne Livingston Rich
Secretary

Roxanne Livingston Rich is the Renewable Energy Project Coordinator at Gregory Electric Co. She obtained her B.S. in Physics from Furman University (2010) and Master of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from the University of South Carolina (2014).

Roxanne is entering her third year as secretary of the SC Solar Council and her first year as a member of the SCSC Board. In the past three years she has worked closely with the SCSC board in designing & updating the new webpage, updating memberships, and organizing the Fall & Spring meetings. Roxanne looks forward to contributing her voice as the 2018 Board sets the tone for the next phase of the SC Solar Council.

Outside of the office Roxanne enjoys teaching dance and choreographing for the competition team at Bailey Fine Arts Centre, playing kickball in City of Columbia’s adult league, and working with the youth at Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church. Most importantly Roxanne loves spending time with her husband, Auston, and her rapidly growing extended family!

Kent Trowbridge

Kent is a Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer of Southern Current LLC. Southern Current is a renewable energy solutions provider, with a focus on solar photovoltaic energy systems. The company has installed over 300 Solar Energy Systems in seven different States. Southern Current’s services include project planning & consulting, design/engineering, equipment procurement & system installation, operations & maintenance and project development. As a developer, Southern Current has a pipeline of 500 MW of utility scale projects focused mainly in the Southeastern States, including North Carolina, South Carolina, Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi and Florida. Southern Current’s utility projects range in size from 1 to 80 MW.

Kent has been involved in start up and emerging companies since graduating from Yale University in 1987 and receiving a finance MBA from Stern School of Business at New York University in 1991.  The companies with which Mr. Trowbridge has been involved run the full spectrum from technology to retail to manufacturing.

From 1993 to 1999 Kent was Senior Vice President of Operations for Delia*s, a catalog company catering to teenage girls. Delia*s was headquartered in New York, NY.  During Kent’s tenure, Delia*s annual sales grew from $150,000 to over $150 million, and full-time employees grew from and from 12 to over 500.  He was responsible for the 24 hour a day / 365 days a year operations of the company and was also a member of the management team.

After resigning from Delia*s Kent traveled, became an active investor in a number of small companies, and edited his father’s biography of Guglielmo Marconi, inventor of the wireless.

Kent lives on Daniel Island with his wife Laura and their two children, McCabe and Claire.

Brad Van Meter
Vice-Chair

Brad Van Meter is a Comprehensive Solutions Account Manager for Trane / Ingersoll Rand with over 27 years of experience. His particular area of expertise is in the development of energy savings performance contracts within K-12, higher education, public sector and state agency vertical markets.

Mr. Van Meter has managed project teams, from initial project identification through implementation, on numerous performance contracting projects throughout the Southeast. His role is to identify customer financial and infrastructure needs, assist in the final negotiations of performance contracts, and lead the project team both during and after the initial contract period.

Brad has been involved in Performance Contracting since 2000 where he led the successful efforts that resulted major sales within South Carolina. Brad was formerly Branch Manager of Johnson Controls in Greenville, SC and was instrumental in providing the LEED commissioning for the Hipp Hall Classroom Building at Furman University – the first LEED certified building in the State of South Carolina.

He later served as Municipal Utility Solutions Manager for Johnson Controls implementing municipal infrastructure upgrade programs within the United States and Canada. Prior to that, Brad was an industry leader within the Utility Construction realm, pioneering some of the earliest automated trenchless technology and automated tunneling projects within North America.

Don Zimmerman

Don is a technology veteran who has worked in the photonics industry for more than 27 years. He has worked for AT&T Bell Labs, designing fiber optic systems, and co-founded and managed the R&D for the optical amplifier division of JDS Uniphase. He started a consulting company, Light Systems Associates, and while working with AT&T Labs, developed his skills in solar energy systems engineering and design.

Don has been formally trained in PV systems by Solar Energy International (the leader in solar energy training). He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan, a Master’s degree in Optics from the University of Rochester, and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Columbia University. He has seven patents and is an active contributor to the solar energy research and development community.

Don is a certified solar PV installer by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP). He currently serves as a board member of the South Carolina Solar Business Alliance.
